AKRON'S FIRST INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP
In 1952, Guy Richard started Akron's first independent transmission shop in a two car garage on Pondview Ave. After hiring present owner John Wharton in 1960, Mr. Richard moved to a location in Akron on Brittain Rd, where John would take over as manager in 1967.
MORE THAN JUST TRANSMISSIONS
John eventually bought the business in 1974 and moved it to a location on East Market St. but quickly outgrew the space he had available there. The decision was made in 1978 to move to the company's present location on S. Seiberling Street and build a 10,000 sq. ft. facility that has since been expanded by an additional 3,000 sq. ft. Today, Richard's Garage boasts eight employees, 13 hydraulic lifts and one mobile lift which can raise 32 tons.

Richard's Garage has one ultimate goal – Customer Satisfaction. John helps keep his employees up to date on the latest technology by having them attend regular training seminars and other types of special events. Every vehicle that comes in the door is treated like it's the mechanic's very own.
